To consolidate your natural teeth and improve their appearance

What is a porcelain crown?

A porcelain crown is a restoration that covers a tooth to restore it to its natural shape and size, consolidate it, and improve its appearance. Crowns can be made from all sorts of materials including gold, metal, porcelain on metal, zircon, and porcelain.

You may have already seen people wearing crowns or ones that have a black line at gum’s. This is generally caused by the metal edge of a ceramic/metallic crown. These crowns are the norm, but many cosmetic dentists now use crowns made entirely of porcelain, that are just as solid, but very superior from an aesthetic point of view.

What can crowns correct?

A porcelain crown is necessary when a tooth has deteriorated too much, or when a cavity compromises a surface to such a point that the tooth must be entirely covered. If a tooth is cracked, the crown reinforced the whole tooth by sealing the cracks and preventing further damage.

Crowns also serve to support large fillings when there is not enough tooth remaining, to attach a bridge, to protect fragile teeth and prevent their rupture, to restore fractured teeth or to cover teeth with malformations or that are too dark.

At Spa dentaire Laurier, the majority of porcelain crowns are made with the help of CAD/CAM (computer-assisted design and fabrication) CEREC dental technology. This allows the procedure to be performed in one visit.
